Engaging in Zonta
Best Practices, Strategies & Resources

One important advantage of membership in Zonta is being part of a global organization with an international district. Connecting with clubs and their members in your own area and across the border is a way to expand your personal and professional experience.
Visiting and Supporting Other Clubs & Members
‘Going it alone’ is acceptable but consider what you are missing when not interacting with other clubs and members.

Visit Clubs
If you invite other club members to attend your meetings, guest speakers, and events will increase the likelihood of a reciprocal invitation. Tap into sharing ideas for events, contacts for guest speakers and event participants. Observe how other clubs conduct meetings. Is there a way to improve how your club operates and increase the enjoyment of your members?
Supporting Members
The district board and committees are comprised of members from your clubs. These members have invested time and effort to improve the operation of the district and help our clubs. Show your support by attending the district online sessions, events, or projects they lead.
Sharing Material
Each club has its own strengths and weaknesses. Sharing what you do well while accepting assistance from others in the weaker areas of your club will be a benefit to your membership.
The main complaint among clubs and members is time constraints. We can decrease the workload by sharing what we do with others.
- Has changing your meeting structure increased the enjoyment of members?
- Share what you did.
- Has your membership drive resulted in an increase in membership?
- Share how you did it.
- Has your club increased your social media following?
- What drove the increase?
- New marketing material has increased community awareness of your club.
- Share the material to help other clubs.

Attend District 4 Conference
There are multiple reasons for attending our district conference. To conduct business, form new friendships, learn new things, and experience Zonta from beyond your club.

Conduct District Business
Each club has the responsibility to assign the appropriate number of club delegates and alternates based on club size to participate in business sessions.
During business sessions, delegates hear and vote on proposed budgets and changes to District Rules of Procedure that in turn affect how club business is conducted. This is also an opportunity for clubs to put forward proposed changes they wish to see made at the international level.
Develop & Rekindle Friendships
The advantage of belonging to an international district is to meet new people and form friendships beyond your own club.
District Conference is attended by the ZI Director and liaison to our district. A casual Internation Gathering is held on the Thursday night before the conference. This is an excellent time to meet an international member.
An important part of our conference is developing new and rekindle existing friendships in person. While we have the ability to communicate via telephone, email and now online meeting programs, thanks to COVID-19, giving each of us the ability to see and hear from those at a distance. There is still a no better experience than meeting people in person.
Learn New Things
District 4 Conference attendees can participate in workshops and learning sessions. These sessions are chosen based on clubs’ needs, new information or campaigns from Zonta International or District 4. It is of benefit to your club for club attendees to participate in as many different sessions as possible to bring back new information to your club.

Attend Zonta International Convention
There are multiple reasons for attending our International Convention. Similar to attending a district conference; the convention is just that much bigger and with greater opportunities. To conduct business, form new friendships, learn new things, and experience Zonta from beyond your club and your country. Yes, you get to travel internationally!

Conduct International Business
Each club is responsible for assigning the appropriate number of club delegates and alternates based on club size to participate in business sessions.
During business sessions, delegates hear and vote on proposed budgets and changes to our governing documents that affect how our district and club business is conducted. This is also an opportunity for club delegates to support proposals our clubs and district put forward at the district conference.
Develop & Rekindle Friendships
The advantage of belonging to an international organization is meeting new people and forming friendships from multiple countries.
The International Convention is attended by the ZI elected board, committees and staff. There are multiple opportunities to meet with them at convention.
Communicating to those at such a distance and variety of time zones is typically accomplished by email or online meeting programs; convention allows that in-person experience.
Learn New Things
Like District Conferences, attendees can participate in workshops and learning sessions. It is of benefit to your club for club attendees to participate in as many different sessions as possible to bring back new information to your club.
Attend the North American Inter-District Meeting
This gathering is held in odd years of the Zonta biennium in a host district’s community.
Members from across North America congregate to learn new things and meet new people, including our International Board, who often hold a board meeting after the event.
Why Attend?
This gathering is held from Friday evening to Sunday noon and often at quite a distance from your club. If you have the ability to attend, it is worth it. The programs offered are exceptional, and the experience of being with 150+ Zonta members in one location is a treat and a little closer to home than convention.
Again the benefit to belonging to an international organization is the opportunity to experience and learning from others beyond our own clubs and communities.
