“A Corry couple were the winners of a grand prize drawing of $5,000.”

The Zonta Club of the Corry Area held its annual car/cash raffle on Dec. 3. This year, the raffle was held privately with the club’s board of directors present.

A Corry couple were the winners of a grand prize drawing of $5,000.

Also, 25 tickets were drawn first, and those ticket holders were given back the $50 cost of their ticket. Those tickets were then put back in the bin for a chance at the grand prize.

The club sells 225 tickets each year. Normally, the tickets sell for $100 each and the grand prize is $10,000. The annual event includes a dinner for ticket holders, free drinks, a Chinese auction and 50-50 raffles.

However, without the expenses incurred by hosting a dinner this year, the club elected to cut the price of the ticket in half, thus making the grand prize half the usual amount.

The Zonta Club of the Corry Area takes any money made from the raffle and donates it back to the community in the form of contributions to local nonprofits, such as the Salvation Army, the Corry Public Library and a shelter for victims of abuse.
