The Zonta Club of St. Catharines was chartered in 1929, sponsored by the Zonta Club of Hamilton. Among its early members, was Jessie Ekin who served as Zonta International President from 1944-1946. Like all Zonta Clubs, and all service organizations, for that matter, we were forced by the pandemic to suspend our usual approach to service. We transformed our afternoon tea into an online auction and programme about food security, to raise money for Food4Kids Niagara. To say that the learning curve was steep, is an understatement.

We also returned to our “Free the Girls” campaign and collected over 150 bras from our friends and families. Unfortunately, assembling birthing kits had to be suspended, and they are a high priority for this year. We also look forward to hosting our customary Trivia Night, and our annual Afternoon Tea in the spring, if the war on Covid allows. This past eighteen months has demonstrated that we can shift our mode of operating as a club, and, whatever the circumstances, maintain our solidarity as an effective Zonta team.
