District 4 Governor’s Short Update – April 19, 2020

Governor Bonnie's Post

Zonta International District 4 Governor’s Short Update, April 19, 2020

Dear District 4 Zontians,

I will send a Report on the upcoming April 29 Meeting of ZI President Susanne with Governors. ZI may report some changes at that time. In the meantime, here are the six main points from my Skype with our ZI Liaison Judy Gorton. Please feel free to email me any questions or comments.

All Club Presidents received the ZI email. It is important to follow the directions & due dates for ZI business. Our Clubs still have a lot to do – including voting for their 2020-2022 club officers, convention delegates & alternates & the items in the ZI email. Although cancelling the Convention was sad, the benefit is that All members can attend the online Convention for free & All Clubs will have their own Delegates (No proxies).

Because ZI took a “big hit” financially due to the convention cancellation expenses, they do need our full dues. ZI put in an insurance claim which may help. They are making Full Refunds of all registration & events expenses to every Zontian. Some Zontians offered to donate a part of their fees to help ZI with expenses. That was very kind. Thank you.

ZI encourages our clubs to reach out to members who may need temporary financial help on a private personal basis. Most clubs have more funds than usual due to cancelled workshops & convention. And members have not been spending for dinners at meetings. Clubs can vote on ideas to reduce meal costs. Some suggestions are: groups of members take turns cooking; non-dinner meetings; lower cost dinners; members can choose to attend but not buy dinner. Please give me your ideas so I can share them.

We need to be especially mindful of any smaller clubs that might be at risk of disbanding. Please let your Area Directors & me know so we can try to help. I can also go to ZI to ask for help, if need be.

We in the USA can be grateful that we are not affected by the changes in currency rates. But the 12 Canadian Clubs in D4 have seen their rate go from about $1.30 – 1.33 CA$ = $1.00 US$ to about $1.49 CA$ =$1.00 US$. I’m sorry that you have this additional burden.

And now our border is closed- Can’t wait until we can be together again – Miss you.

I am still trying for ways to reach out with a personal touch to show members we care. Some Clubs are doing personal phone calls & having good results. Our Communications Committee is doing an outstanding job of helping members, clubs, areas, committees, etc. to have GoToMeetings. I appreciate any ideas of ways to let our members know that we care about them & are working for them.

I hope all of our Zontians & their families will escape the Coronavirus. You are the heart & soul of Zonta.

Thinking of you all,

Bonnie
