Peace Bridge to illuminate Orange on Nov. 25, recognizing International Elimination of Violence Against Women Day

BUFFALO, NY, November 19, 2025 – In collaboration with Zonta International’s 16 Days of Activism campaign, the Peace Bridge Authority will illuminate the Peace Bridge Orange on November 25, to recognize International Elimination of Violence Against Women Day for the first time. Orange is the color symbolizing unity across the world, and it also is a color of caution. The color is no coincidence for this annual campaign, calling attention to the urgency our community is facing addressing crimes against women and Intimate Partner Violence, especially following three domestic violence homicides of WNY women in recent months. And the local Zonta clubs stand in solidarity with the Family Justice Center of Erie County to bring domestic and intimate partner violence awareness to our community.

From November 25 to December 10 every year, United Nations and Zonta International call on people everywhere to display orange and take action to end violence against women and girls in communities, at home, in public spaces, in schools and workplaces, during conflict and in times of peace. Orange caution tape ribbons have been placed around town on Grand Island and in other communities and public spaces as a glaring reminder of the cycles of abuse that happen behind closed doors.

Zonta International is a not for profit, nonsectarian, nonpartisan service organization created in 1919 in Buffalo, New York by professional women for women. Zonta is committed to advocating for human rights, gender equity and a life free of violence for women and girls. Zonta members, in over 65 countries earnestly co-collaborate with the United Nations UNICEF, UNESCO, and UNFPA initiatives, one being the “Unite -16 Days of Activism” global campaign to raise awareness of and increase advocacy actions to end violence against women and support Human Rights. Zonta Club of Grand Island NY District 4 includes clubs and members from both United States and Canada.
