A Women’s Health Medical Mission Trip through the International Sports Academy is taking 360 birthing kits prepared by the Zonta Club of Jamestown. The Team is flying to Nairobi, Kenya and then on to Kitale, where they will be setting up a clinic for a few days before heading to Eldoret, where a hospital just opened. The birthing kits will be going to the FreMo Medical and Birthing Center, Kawangware-Nairobi Kenya.

The birthing kits contain items to prevent infection to the mother and baby during childbirth. Items in the kit are a plastic sheet for women to deliver on a clean surface, soap, gloves for the birth attendant to prevent infection of the mother or baby, clean umbilical cord ties, clean razor blade to cut the cord, and 4×4 gauze squares to clean the newborns eyes. All items fit in a labeled quart size bag.

The Zonta Club of Jamestown extends its thanks to the Falconer junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams for their donation of $1450 to Lily’s Hope.  These funds were the proceeds of their “Block Out Cancer” event held on October 18.  Lily’s Hope is a boutique located in UPMC Chautauqua which provides free wigs and scarves to women who lost their hair due to a medical condition.
