AND after you learn about the Olmstead Parks, join our member – Andrea Somerville – at a local Olmstead Park on Thursday, September 16th, @ 6:30 pm.  Andrea will lead the group in a 60-minute walk, and we will enjoy each other’s company.  An email will be distributed with the name of the selected park and directions of where to meet prior to the 16th.

Monday, Sept. 13th Rochester’s Olmsted Parks      

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

This talk will present an introduction to the life and accomplishments of Frederick Law Olmsted, the pioneer of the modern urban park. We will first explore the history of urban parks, then move to the early life of FL Olmsted, leading to the creation of Central Park. Also covered are the major projects of Olmsted and the Olmsted firm after Central Park, and the Rochester (now Monroe County) Park System, partially designed by Olmsted.
