On April 23rd, The Zonta Club of Toronto, in collaboration with the Museum of Toronto, presented an Earth Week panel discussion with three leading Toronto women who are working to build healthy, equitable and climate-friendly cities.  They discussed themes of climate action and environmental justice through the voices of women shaping our understanding and response to climate change in Toronto.

The Museum of Toronto’s current exhibit The 52 focuses on 52 women past and present who have helped shape the City of Toronto.  The Museum was the perfect environment for this women centred discussion.

Panelists included Dr. Cheryl Teelucksingh a sociologist and Professor in the Department of Sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University.  Dr. Teelucksingh’s work has focused on how issues such as climate change, urban development and access to green space disproportionately affect marginalized communities.

Emmay Mah of the Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEC) has worked in the non-profit sector locally and internationally.  She is passionate about working with local movements to build healthy, equitable and climate-friendly cities and resilient communities.

Michelle Li is a renowned Climate Champion, the founder of Women and Climate and is the driving force behind Clever Carbon, an organization dedicated to democratizing carbon footprint literacy.

An energetic question and answer period from the 50  guests followed the panel discussion.    Over light refreshments, members of Zonta were able to talk to attendees about Zonta and in particular Zonta Says Now.
