The Zonta Canada Caucus is composed of the Governor and two delegates from each of the five Zonta districts with Canadian members. The District 4 delegates are Tanya Tagwerker (Guelph) and Joan Westcott (Kitchener-Waterloo). The caucus has been meeting once a month since August 2021. A major goal of the Canada Caucus is to develop advocacy actions across the country on Canadian issues.

February 22 Is Human Trafficking Awareness Day In Canada
Trafficking in persons, also known as human trafficking, is a heinous crime and an abuse of human rights. It is commonly defined as the use of violence, deception or coercion to transport, recruit or harbour people in order to exploit them for purposes such as force prostitution, forced labour, criminality, marriage or organ removal.

The large percentage of women and girls trafficked in Canada are Canadian, lured, groomed and trafficked in Canadian municipalities. The large majority are under the age of 24, many younger than 16. Human trafficking is considered the fastest growing crime in some parts of Canada.
A package of information has been sent to each Canadian Zonta Club president from the Zonta Canada Caucus to assist members’ awareness of this crime and how to identify situations where a victim is seeking help to escape the situation.
