Happy Thanksgiving my American Zonta friends! I hope you have had a great weekend with family and friends.
As we start the 16 Days of Activism, I hope your club is doing something special during that time, whether in person or on your social media. Remember to share you story on the ZI website and use hashtags on your social media posts like – #ZontaSaysNO #16Days
Also send your pictures with a note for the next enews to [email protected]
I can’t wait to see what your club has been involved with or collaborating with like-minded organizations to end gender-based violence. We have to work together to change these statistics. Sadly 30% of women worldwide who have been in a relationship, report they have experienced some form of physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner. These result in serious short and long term problems – physical, mental, reproductive, sexual and increased vulnerability to HIV. 73% of women are abused online- In Europe, 9 million women have experienced a serious form of cyber violence against women and girls since age 15 and in the USA women are 27 times more likely to be abused online than men. Check out our ZI website for many facts and tools you can use – under Zonta Says NO.
Zonta Clubs around the world will be marching, holding informational events, and standing up to say NO to Violence Against Women in the next 16 Days. Landmarks around the world will be turning orange in many districts. District 4 will be in Niagara Falls on Sunday Night to kick off the 16 Days of Activism as we join the hosting clubs of Niagara Falls ON and St. Catherines turn the Falls Orange at 10pm. If you are available to join us that would be fabulous! Below is a picture from last year!
